A VAS score below 50 means your listing has significant visual gaps that are actively costing you conversions. The good news: the fixes are specific and achievable. The bad news: there are no shortcuts — you need to address the underlying gaps, not just the number.
Step 1: Read the evidence, not just the scores
Before doing anything, read the evidence field for each low-scoring dimension. The score tells you how bad; the evidence tells you exactly why. "No lifestyle images present" is a very different problem from "lifestyle images present but product not clearly visible in lifestyle context." Different evidence requires different fixes.
Step 2: Prioritise the three highest-impact dimensions
For most low-scoring listings, the highest-impact improvements are in: Lifestyle Context (often worth 5–8 points), Size & Scale (often worth 5–7 points), and Trust Signals (often worth 4–6 points). Address these three first — they typically account for 15–20 points of score improvement.
Step 3: Generate a blueprint
Generate a blueprint targeting your specific RUFUS gaps. Your blueprint will produce 7 image briefs in priority order — start with the slots marked "critical" and work down.
Step 4: Fix your hero image if Mobile Thumbnail scored below 7
A low Mobile Thumbnail score is a click-through problem that no amount of good supporting images will fix. Your hero image needs to pass the 150px test before investing in supporting images. Generate a new hero brief and create a new hero first.
Most listings below 50/100 can reach 70–75/100 by fixing 3 image slots. Reaching 85+ typically requires all 7 slots to be addressed.
Step 5: Upload and rescan
After uploading new images, wait 24 hours for Amazon's index to update, then run a new VAS scan. You should see score improvement within 48 hours. Use the rescan to identify remaining gaps and continue the optimisation cycle.
