When we built the Visual Authority Score, we wanted to answer one question sellers keep asking: "Is my listing good enough to win on Amazon AI?"
Not "do I have enough images" — Amazon doesn't care how many images you have if they're the wrong type. Not "is my photography professional" — a beautiful image that doesn't answer buyer questions is worthless to RUFUS.
The question is: do your images give Amazon's AI the specific visual signals it needs to rank and recommend your product?
The Visual Authority Score answers that with a 0–100 number, broken down across 10 dimensions.
How Scoring Works
The VAS uses Gemini Vision AI to analyse your actual listing images — not metadata, not image counts. Each dimension is scored 0–15:
Scoring scale
0–3: This image type does not exist in your listing
4–7: Exists but poor quality or execution
8–11: Exists and acceptable
12–15: Exists and excellent
The AI returns evidence for each score — a description of what it actually saw: "Clean white background hero shot fills 90% of frame" or "No size chart or dimension reference found in any image."
The 10 Dimensions
Your hero image is the most important image in your listing — it's what buyers see in search results. RUFUS evaluates: pure white/neutral background, product fills 85%+ of frame, product clearly identifiable, sharp and professionally lit.
High score (12–15): Pure white background, product fills frame, no distracting props, sharp focus.
Low score (0–3): Coloured background, product is small in frame, multiple products creating confusion.
Infographic images contain text callouts, labels, arrows, or icons pointing to specific product features. RUFUS uses these to read your product features visually — without relying on bullet points.
High score (12–15): Multiple infographic images with 4–6 clear feature callouts, readable text at mobile thumbnail size.
Low score (0–3): No images with text overlay. Product-only images throughout.
Lifestyle images show real people using the product in real-world environments. RUFUS evaluates whether the setting is realistic and relevant to the product's use case, and whether the product is being used as intended.
High score (12–15): 2+ lifestyle images showing real people in relevant settings. Authentic, not stock-photo staged.
Low score (0–3): No lifestyle images. All images are product-only on white or coloured backgrounds.
Benefit images communicate the product's value proposition and problem-solving capability visually. RUFUS evaluates whether buyers understand what problem this product solves from the images alone.
High score (12–15): Clear benefit communication across multiple images. Buyer understands the value without reading bullets.
Low score (0–3): Images show the product but don't communicate why someone would buy it.
Size reference images help buyers understand product dimensions. RUFUS actively looks for size charts, scale comparison images, and dimension labels — especially for clothing, accessories, and home goods.
High score (12–15): Clear size chart, multiple scale references, dimension labels. Buyer can determine size without reading description.
Low score (0–3): No size or dimension information visible in any image.
Trust signal images show certifications, guarantees, awards, or quality indicators visually. Mentioning certifications in bullets is not enough — RUFUS scores visual trust signals separately.
High score (12–15): Clear certification images, guarantee badges, quality assurance visuals.
Low score (0–3): No visible certifications or trust signals in any image.
Over 60% of Amazon purchases happen on mobile. Text in your images must be readable at small sizes. RUFUS penalises listings where important information becomes unreadable at thumbnail size.
High score (12–15): All text readable at mobile sizes. Key information visible without zooming.
Low score (0–3): Small text unreadable on mobile. Important elements lost at small sizes.
Consistent branding across your listing communicates brand identity and builds buyer trust. RUFUS evaluates visual consistency, logo placement, and design cohesion.
High score (12–15): Consistent brand colours, logo present, professional design system across all images.
Low score (0–3): Inconsistent style, no branding elements, generic unbranded appearance.
Video content is detected from listing metadata. Amazon SBV (Sponsored Brand Video) is one of the highest-converting ad formats. Listings with video signal seller investment and product confidence to Amazon's AI.
High score (10–13): 1–2 videos detected in listing.
Low score (2): No video detected.
A+ content and brand story presence is detected from listing metadata. A+ content significantly improves conversion rates and signals brand registration and investment to Amazon's AI systems.
High score (9–13): A+ content and brand story both detected.
Low score (2): No A+ content or brand story detected.
